The wife of Kebbi State Governor Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris has flagged off campaign against measles at the Primary Health Care facility at Takalau in Birnin kebbi, the Kebbi state capital.
Speaking at the ceremony, the wife of the Governor emphasized on the need for parents to ensure they make their children from zero to five years available for the vaccination against the childhood killer disease so as to reduce the rate of child mortality in the State and Nigeria at large in addition to improving the overall health condition of children.
She thanked the Kebbi State ministry of health and traditional leaders for all their efforts in sensitizing the populace on the importance of the vaccination, adding that the present administration led by her husband Dr. Nasir İdris Kauran Gwandu is poised to improving the health sector in the State.
In his welcome address the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Nuhu Shehu Koko who represented the commissioner of the ministry, thanked the wife of the Governor for flagging the vaccination campaign, describing it as commendable and encouraging.
He also commended the traditional tittle holders as well as media Organisations in the state for their support in dissemination of health care activities in all nook and cranny of kebbi state and the State government for improving the health care services generally.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Alh. Abubakar Atiku Kende commended the state government for according priority attention to the health sector, saying situation of hospitals in the state have improved since the inception of the present administration led by Dr. Nasir İdris Kauran Gwandu.
In their good will messages, the representatives of Emir of Gwandu Alh. Atiku Muhammad Diggi, National primary Health Care Development Agency, Akuso Yahaya, World Health Organization Eyitayo Emmanuel, UNICEF Suhail Shiek Anagha,GAIN, IHP, Chigari and host of others commended Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation for championing the course of health care services in the state, describing measles as a deadly disease to children which causes deafness and blindness in children, calling for more support from community volunteers and traditional leaders in promoting the campaign against the deadly disease.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion were Wives of the state Deputy Governor, SSG, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, 21 local government Chairmen, Traditional Leaders and women groups.
Highlights of the event were administration of vaccine to children by wife of the Governor and other dignitaries, inspection of Takalau primary health care facility, cultural display by Yantauri, Drama presentation and musical entertainment.
