The Kebbi state ministry of health in collaboration with Nafisa Nasir charity development foundation (NANAS) has commissioned breast and cervical cancer screening room and cancer treatment support for twenty indigent cancer patients at Kebbi medical center Kalgo.
In his welcome address, the state commissioner of health, comrade Yunusa Musa Isma’il commended the wife of Kebbi state Governor, Dr. Nafisa Nasir for her contribution to the development of maternal health in the state and for partnering with ROCHE, FLAC and Medicaid cancer foundation for supporting the noble course, saying the gesture would go a long way in cushioning the hardship the patients go through.
In her speech the wife of Minister of Budget and economic planning and Chairperson first ladies against cancer (FLAC) Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu gave a brief historical background of FLAC, saying, it is a coalition of the spouses of current and former state Governors working to address the gaps in the cancer cuntinuum of care, increasing awareness, facilitating access to screening and treatment services and advocating the implementation of policies that will deliver equitable access to healthcare services. She thanked Dr. Nafisa Nasir for the gesture and called on the medical practitioners in the state to give her all the support she needs in order to succeed and assured her of her continued support at all times. In his remarks, the General Manager ROCHE Dr. Ladi Hameed described the multinational company that operates pharmaceutical and diagnostics, adding that ROCHE is an international organization that prioritizes women’s health.
He commended Dr. Nafisa Nasir for her contribution to the improvement of maternal health in the state, calling for a partnership with the state government to improve health care services in the state. The Chief Medical Director of Kebbi medical center Kalgo, Dr. Nura Muhammad Kangiwa thanked the wife of the Governor for her support and contributions to the health sector and assured her that the facilities provided would be used judiciously.
Hasiya Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the wife of the Governor for the financial assistance given to them to pay for their medical bills and prayed to God to reward her abundantly. In an interview with newsmen, the wife of kebbi state Governor, Dr. Nafisa Nasir said the screening room was provided to enable patients have easy access to the screening facility, calling on the patients to make good use of the financial support in taking care of their health, assuring that she would continue to support the wellbeing of women in the state at all times. Dignitaries who attended the event were wife of the Deputy Governor, wives of commissioners, medical personnel and students.
Highlights of the event were presentation of undisclosed amount of money to the patients, commissioning of the screening room by Dr Nafisa Nasir and examination of patients by Dr. Jega among others.
