The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, has flagged off world breastfeeding week 2024, with the theme – CLOSING THE GAP: BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT FOR ALL, in Bagudo local government.
In her address, Dr. Nafisa Nasir said the aim of celebrating the week globally is to sensitize the people on the importance of breastfeeding to new borns up to six months exclusively, describing it as nutritious and beneficial to the overall growth of the child. She called on mothers to embibe the habit of visiting hospitals to access free medical interventions provided by the present administration so as to have healthy children in the society.
In his speech, the state commissioner of health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Isma’il, said the week is celebrated globally every year from 1-7 August to sensitize women on exclusive breastfeeding, calling on them to ensure that they attend anti natal and post natal during and after pregnancy and also attend immunization rounds to guard against child killer diseases.
In their good will messages, the state commissioner of women affairs and social development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, Kebbi State Chairperson on Nutrition Hajjiya Aisha Usman, Chairman NANAS foundation Alh. Aminuddeen Attahiru Nasarawa and Miss Eunice Ere State Nutrition officer, called on mothers to ensure they breastfeed their babies exclusively for six months before any other suplimentary feeding.
Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris was awarded with Kebbi Nutrition Ambassador. Dignitaries who attended the event were wives of minister of Education, commissioners, medical practitioners, Members of NANAS foundation and elders forum. Highlights of the event was the distribution of essential commodities to breast feeding mothers by the dignitaries. Earlier the wife of the Governor paid homage to the District head of Bagudo, Bahindin Bagudo, Alh. Muhammad Sambo Khaliel. The wife of the Governor said the aim of her visit to Bagudo was to Flag off the world breast feeding week 2024.
Magajin Bagudo Alh. Baba Yahaya, who represented the Bahindin Bagudo, expressed happiness over the visit and prayed to Allah to bless her abundantly.
