The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris has called on adolescent girls to imbibe the habit of cleanliness to avoid contracting infectious diseases which can cause serious complications to their reproductive organs.
She made the call at a sensitization program organized by Girls Talk on Education, Safety and Health (G-TOESH) and Beautiful Minds Foundation for Reproductive Health in collaboration with Nafisa Nasiru Charity Development foundation (NANAS), held in Birnin kebbi.
She commended the partnering NGOs for coming up with the programme to educate the adolescent girls who are beginners in the system.
In their remarks,wife of the State Deputy Governor, Hajiya Maryam Umar Tafida, State Commissioner of health, Comrade Yunusa Isma’il and State Commissioner of Women Affairs and social development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba called on the students to apply the knowledge as they grow up for their general well-being.
In their paper presentations Dr Sa’ad Zubairu, consultant obstetrician and gynecologist federal medical center Birnin Kebbi and Dr Jamila Abubakar Garba Consultant Obstetrician and gynecologist, UDUTH Sokoto, spoke on menstrual hygiene and its importance to the reproductive health, calling on the students to be clean at all times.
In her keynote address, Ameera FOMWAN, Hajiya Hauwau Abubakar spoke extensively on menstrual hygiene from the islamic perspective, saying cleanliness is paramount in Islam.
In her welcome address, the chairperson of G-TOESH and CEO Bazata cosmetics and more, Hajiya Fatima Bazata said the aim of organizing the programme was to educate and sensitize the young girls so as to have knowledge of personal hygiene.
She thanked the wife of the Governor for supporting the development of women generally in the state.
In his remarks, Alhaji Aminuddeen Attahiru Nassarawa who is the chairman, NANAS foundation, said the foundation focused on the development of child and maternal health in the state, adding that the NGO has been delivering its services before the inception of the present administration.
The event featured goodwill messages, presentations by students as well as entertainment and presentation of bags to each student containing menstrual hygiene materials.
