Mothers have been called upon to breastfeed their babies exclusively for six months before giving any other complimentary food.
These were the words of the wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, at the baby shower organized by the Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency in commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week, 2024 with a theme: Closing the gap, break the record, break the barrier, breastfeeding support for all.
In her address, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, commended the Kebbi State Ministry of Health and Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency for a job well done in sensitizing and educating women on the importance of exclusive breast feeding.
She called on pregnant women to always visit hospitals for anti natal care as the present administration has provided medical interventions in that direction.
In his welcome address, the Kebbi State commissioner of Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Nuhu Koko, said the program was organized to mark a significant milestone in their efforts to improve the health of citizens of Kebbi state and breastfeeding mothers.
He commended the Kauran Gwandu led administration and Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris for their efforts in prioritizing the health sector in the state,calling on mothers to breastfeed their babies for six months for the benefit there in.
The wife of the Governor flagged off the distribution of Tamoa food supplement and she was awarded with NUTRITION CHAMPION OF KEBBI STATE.
The event featured presentation of gifts to mothers who breastfed their babies for six months, good will messages by development partners and entertainment.
Dignitaries who attended the event were wives of Deputy Governor, speaker house of assembly,commissioners, Medical personnel, nutrition officers, members of NANAS foundation and Elders forum.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to news men commended the Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris and Kebbi state Primary Health Care Development Agency for touching their lives positively.
