Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, has called on Widows of fallen heroes to engage in skills acquisition programmes so as to be self reliant and independent in taking care of their children.
She made the call at the 63rd Nigeria’s independence Anniversary, 1st October 2023, which took place at the 1 Battalion,Nigerian Army, Dukku Barracks Birnin Kebbi.
She said she chose to celebrate the historic and memorable day with the widows considering the fact that their husbands lost their lives in the course of service to the nation, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices can not be fully repaid, saying it is a duty bound on them to appreciate the sacrifices the fallen heroes had made and to assist members of families they left behind.
She promised to continue to support the families at all times and thanked them for the warm reception accorded her.
In his address, the Commanding officer, 1 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Dukku Barracks Birnin Kebbi, Major M S Mustapha, commended the wife of the Governor for celebrating the historic day with the families of the fallen heroes and prayed to Allah to bless her abundantly.
The celebration was also extended to Divisional Police Barracks Birnin Kebbi.
Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris called on the widows of the Nigerian police officers not to relent efforts in taking good care of their children, assuring them of her total commitment to the betterment of their living standard.
In his welcome address, the Kebbi state commissioner, CP Aminyonu Wane, thanked the wife of the Governor for honouring the families of the fallen heroes on the historic day of Nigeria’s independence, describing it as worthy of emulation.
Speaking to newsmen, Alh. Khairullah Abdullahi, founder Alkhairiyya solidarity movement, commended the wife of the Governor for celebrating the independence day with families of the fallen heroes, describing her as a kindhearted woman and callied on wives of Governors in the country to emulate her.
Dignitaries who attended the occasion were wives of the Deputy Governor and SSG, Commissioners of health and women affairs and their permanent secretaries, wives of local governments’ Chairmen, Members of Nigerian Army officers wives Association (NAOWA) Members of Police officers Wives Association (POWA) among others.
Highlights at the occasion were presentations of Wrappers, Buckets and undisclosed amount of money to the widows of the fallen heroes performed by the wife of the Governor and dignitaries in addition to presentation of one million naira by Khairullah Abdullahi to the widows, good will messages, entertainment and drama presentations.
Over 200 widows benefited from the gesture.
