In her address, at the both old and new Nigerian correctional Centres, Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris expressed delight for witnessing another independence day, saying, the aim of celebrating the day with the inmates was to show compassion to them so as to have a sence of belonging and to free some of the inmates with minor offences, that cannot afford to pay the fines, calling on them to be of good characters when they leave the correctional centres and engage themselves in skills acquisition programs for self-reliance.
She urged them to continue to pray for the present administration led by Dr Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu to enable it bring more development to the state.
In his speech, the Kebbi State Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service, Yunusa Lawal, commended Dr Nafisa for her efforts in bringing succour to the inmates, saying such gesture would mitigate the hardship the inmates are facing, describing the gesture as rewarding from the Islamic perspective, praying to Allah to bless her and her husband for improving the conditions of the inmates.
In their good will messages, the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba and the wife of Secretary to the State government, Hajiya Asma’u Alkali, commended Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, for organizing the event, calling on the inmates to reciprocate the gesture by refraining from their past deeds and be good ambassadors of the society.
DC Mika’il Aliyu of new correctional center appreciated the wife of the Governor and the present administration for the upkeep of the correctional center, requesting for a support to improve the facilities at laundry services, tailoring unit, and other skills units of the correctional center, adding that the correctional center offers primary, secondary and university education to the inmates.
The wife of the Governor in her magnanimity, set free 30 inmates at the new and old correctional centres after settling their fines to enable them rejoin their families, in addition to donating 20,000 to each of the freed inmate.
She also donated 1million naira to the new correctional center, #500, 000 to the old correctional center, food items, detergents, blankets and mats.
Alh Khairullah Abdullahi Jega donated 1million naira to the new correctional service and #500, 000 to the old correctional service, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris also celebrated the independence anniversary with Nigerian Army officers wives Association and Police officers wives Association Birnin kebbi.
In her remarks at the occasion, the wife of the Governor expressed her gratitude to God for witnessing the historic event.
She said the aim of the event was to give a sense of belonging to the wives of the security personnel and to identify with the sacrifices of their husbands to nation, calling on them to continue to pray for them and the country in general. She also called on them to give proper upbringing to their children so as to have a better society.
In his speech, the Commanding officer (C/O), Rear Major A P Azugune represented by LT MB Lawal and Chairperson NAOWA, Mrs Juliet Dauda, appreciated Dr Nafisa for all her efforts and support to the Barracks community, especially widows and prayed to God to bless her abundantly.
Chairman NANAS foundation, Alh. Aminuddeen Attahiru Nasarawa enumerated the aims and objectives of the foundation and announced the sponsorship of 20 children of both the Army and Police officers in skills acquisition training.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command who was represented by ACP Nasiru Iliyasu and reprentative of the POWA’S chairperson, Hajiya Sa’a, appreciated the wife of the Governor for celebrating the independence day with them, acknowledging her efforts in improving the lives of the less privileged in the state.
Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris donated 1million naira to the soldier’s families and police families #500,000, food items, detergents and fertilizer.
Alhaji Khairullah Abdullahi Jega also donated 1million naira to the soldier’s families and #500, 000 to the police families.
The event featured drama presentations, entertainment and cash donations.
Dignitaries who attended the event were commissioners, wives of SSG, commissioners, chairmen, SSA’S, Elders forum and members of NANAS foundation.
