
In her speech during the flag off ceremony, the wife of the Governor, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, said the aim of celebrating the week was to sensitize mothers on how to improve their health care as well as their children, calling on them to reciprocate government services provided in the hospitals by accessing them, while commending the health workers and development partners for their efforts in providing healthcare services to the citizenry.


In his address, the Commissioner of Health, Sama’ila Yakubu Augie, said the bi-annual health week is a vital strategy by government and partners to improve health care and the survival of mothers and children through provision of the essential, high-impact and cost-effective interventions.
He commended Governor Nasir Idris for his unwavering support to the health sector and his wife Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris for her continuous advocacy for maternal and child health.
The Executive Secretary of State primary Health care Development Agency, Pharmacist Muhammad Yauri, said the MNCHW is a high impact, evidence based intervention designed to deliver integrated health and nutrition services to communities across all the 21 LGAs.


In their goodwill messages, Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development,representatives of NPHCDA, UNICEF, WHO, GAIN and NANAS foundation commended the present government and Dr Nafisa Nasir for prioritizing the health sector and improving the quality of the lives of women and children in the state.
The event featured entertainment and presentation of financial support of #10,000 cash and delivery kits to 500 women.
Dignitaries who attended were the wives of Deputy Governor, Commissioners, Chairmen, health personnel, traditional leaders and NANAS foundation.

Earlier, Dr Nafisa Nasir paid homage to the district head of Kardi, Alhaji Ahmad Fodio to seek for his royal blessing.
