NANAS FOUNDATION DONATES N5M TO SUPPORT CANCER PATIENTS

Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), in Kebbi State, has donated N5 million to support treatment of cancer patients.

Alhaji Aminudeen Attahiru Nasarawa, the Chairman of the foundation, made this known when he presented a cheque of N5 million to Chief Executive Officer of MedicAid Cancer Foundation in Abuja, during ‘Walk Away Cancer’ event on Saturday. He explained that the NANAS Foundation made the donation to assist cancer patients as cancer, saying that the cost of cancer treatment ‘is high and exorbitant’, hence the urgent need for support to cancer patients. 

“It is important for Nigerians to be more aware of the things that cause cancer, and also go for screening to ensure early detection of cancer.

“October is cancer awareness month, to let people know about the dangers of cancer disease,” Attahiru Nasarawa, said. 

The chairman commended Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, the CEO/MD, MEDICAID Cancer Foundation, for her efforts in the fight against breast and cervical cancer in the country. 

“We also congratulate you on your recent election as the UICC President- Elect.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu, thanked NANAS foundation for the support.

The high- powered delegation was led by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Hassan-Kamba. 

The delegation was accoumpanied by Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Health, Dr. Shehu Nuhu- Koko, the Chairman NANAS Foundation, Hajiya Asma’u Haliru and Tajudeen Rashid, among others. 

During the event, Hajiya Hassan-Kamba, described the breast and cervical cancer as a global issue which needed urgent attention, considering the alarming increase in number of women affected by the disease.
