Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris and founder of Nafisa Nasir Charity Development foundation (NANAS) has attended the Mass wedding of three hundred less privileged couples in Kebbi state.
In his speech, the Executive Governor of Kebbi state, Dr. Nasir Idris represented by the speaker, Kebbi State House of Assembly, RT Hon. Muhammad Usman Ankwai, Lafiddan Zuru, who presided over the wedding, congratulated the couples and Dr. Nafisa Nasir for the successful conduct of the mass wedding, describing it as the first of its kind in the history of governance in Kebbi state, calling on the newly wedded couples to follow the teachings of Islam governing marriage.
In his remarks, the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar who stood in as the father of the brides, thanked the wife of Governor for the initiative and Prayed to Allah to bless her and her husband for touching the lives of the less privileged in the state.
In her address, Dr Nafisa Nasir congratulated the couples on their wedding, calling on them to abide by the rules and regulations governing marriage as enshrined in the holy Quran and the Sunnah of prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
She added that the initiative was aimed at reducing the number of unmarried men and women in the state who could not afford the marriage expenses, calling on the couples to love and respect one another so as to have a peaceful marital life and prayed to Allah to bless their unions.
She thanked her husband, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir İdris for his support and contribution to the mass wedding, pledging to continue with the program as there are more young men and women who want get married but are constrained by economic factors.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the Main Committee who is also the national organising secretary of the All progressives Congress (APC),Alh Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, Jarman Kabi, commended the wife of the Governor for the initiative which he said would go a long way in improving the moral standards among youth in addition to reducing social vices in the society.
He called on the well do in the state to emulate her by sponsoring similar mass wedding in their respective areas.
Chief Imam of Abdullahi Fodiyo Palace Jumu’at mosque,Imam Muhammad Lawal led other Islamic clerics in contracting the wedding fatiha of the three hundred couples after payment of seventy thousand naira as bride price to each of the three hundred brides drawn from the twenty one local government areas of kebbi state.
Special sermons were delivered by a renown Islamic scholar and chairman, Kano state Hizbah Board, Shiekh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and other clerics including; shiekh Imran Birnin kebbi, shiekh Isah Ibrahim Bashar, shiekh Abubakar Yusuf Yauri ( Sarkin Malaman Yauri) and Chairman, Kebbi State Zakat Board, sheikh Umar Isa Magaji among others.
The Islamic scholars dwelled on the need for the couples to fear of Allah and respect one another in their matrimonial homes.
Speaking to newsmen some of the couples expressed delight over the gesture and prayed to God to reward Dr. Nafisa Nasir and her husband abundantly, for touching their lives positively.
Dignitaries who attended the wedding fatiha were wives of the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners and local government chairmen.
Highlights of the occasion were presentations of Furniture and food stuff to the three hundred couples.
