
The walk started from the state government house and terminated at AP2 roundabout Birnin kebbi.
In her speech, at the state medical center Kalgo, the wife of the Governor, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris, founder NANAS Foundation said the aim of celebrating the day was to create more awareness on the deadly disease and to remember the patients who are battling with cancer with a view to assisting them.


She called on people especially women to visit hospitals regularly as early detection saves lives, saying the administration of Dr Nasir Idris Kauran Gwadu has improved the health care system, hence the need for people to reciprocate the gesture by visiting hospitals.
In their separate remarks, the permanent secretary, ministry of health, Dr Zaki Abubakar, the Commissioner of health, Hon. Sama’la Yakubu Augie and Commissioner of Women affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, commended Dr Nafisa Nasir for organizing the event and for creating more awareness about the disease, acknowledging the fact that the present administration has prioritized the health sector in the state.



The event featured a health talk by Dr Yusuf Tukur from UDUTH Sokoto, who educated the women on the signs and symptoms of cancer and how to examine their breasts after menstruation.
The wife of the Governor and her entourage visited the oncology department of the Federal medical Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi where she sympathized with the patients and prayed to Allah for their quick recovery.
In his remarks, the CMD of Federal Teaching Hospital, Dr Hamza Balarabe, appreciated the wife of the Governor for her compassion for she has sponsored the surgery of a lot of patients and she is the first to show such compassion, praying to Allah to bless her.



The event had the attendance of wives of the Deputy Governor, SSG, Commissioners, Accountant general, Permanent secretaries, NANAS foundation and Elders forum.

Highlights of the event were presentations of food and cash of #100,000 to cancer patients of the two hospitals and free breast cancer screening.
