Her Excellency, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, along with her entourage, paid an advocacy visit to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime at the United Nations House in Abuja. She commended the efforts of UNODC in curbing the menace of drug abuse and crimes in Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi State.
She specifically praised the introduction of the “Line Up Live Up (LULU)” program, which led to the establishment of a Drop-in Center in Kebbi State to provide community based drug treatment and care services.
She also acknowledged the previous Government’s efforts in combating drug abuse, particularly through the implementation of the Unplugged program aimed at promoting positive and healthy behavior, as well as preventing substance abuse among school children. She added that it is commendable that Kebbi State has the highest number of teacher trained on the Unplugged module.
Furthermore, she expressed her commitment to strengthening the partnership with the Kebbi State Government to address the issues of drug abuse and political thuggery, as well as areas of human development. She suggested utilizing traditional and religious approaches to eliminate drug abuse and political thuggery in Kebbi State.
Dr. Oliver Stolpe, the UNODC country representative, praised the efforts of the Kebbi State Government in combating drug abuse and assured their commitment to building a strong collaboration with the Kebbi State Government in the areas of human development, crime and drug abuse.
